Parenting Training Guide VI
Developing the will of the child
- The child is born with a will
- Mind is not given at birth, but will is given
- Will is "I want, I will, etc"
- It is God’s will to have the will of the child aligned with his.
- The child’s will must grow to the extent where they will want what God wants, and reject what God rejects
- When they arrive at this point we say that the child is now under grace, and will no longer intentionally disobey God
- Everything they ask God shall be granted to them
- The child must choose God’s will each day they wake up.
Luke 22:42
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
While on earth, each day, Christ used his will to choose God’s will
It was his will that God’s will be done
Choosing God’s will is not an event that happens once in a person’s lifetime but something that is done each day
Until the child comes of age, they must accept that their Father knows what is best for them, and that the wise thing to do is to surrender their will to him
- Make them choose
- Making deliberate choices shapes the will of the child
- A child who constantly chooses to do the right thing will almost always continue to choose the right thing
- Example of Kessiwa when visiting her to teach her
- What kind of person do you wish to become when you grow up, good or bad?
- What do you have to start doing now to become that kind of person?
- When you wish to embark on a journey, what is the first and most important question you have to answer?
- When you know where to travel, will you board any car when you arrive at the station?
- What is likely to happen when you have not decided where you are going any board any car you come across?
- When you have decided the kind of person you wish to become, will you hang out with any kind of friends, participate in any kind of conversation, take part in any kind of activities, watch any kind of film, listen to any kind of music, etc?
- Welbeck decides who he wants to become
- They must choose you as their parents
- Assume nothing with children
- The best form of investment is investing in other humans.
- God wants us to build human lives, not concrete
